Big Night at Stony Brook!
Big Night is a children's program during which the children observe the release of amphibians into vernal pools. The program at Stony Brook takes place on April 9th and 10th and the programs run from about 6pm to 9pm. There will be several indoor activities at the nature center including hot chocolate and cookies, a vernal pool “touch” table, and amphibian games. Our outdoor activities include leading groups of people out on the trail every 15 minutes. At several places along the trail we have groups that do skits related to terrestrial amphibian migration and the rights of spring. We can do a skit if you are interested, or help out with theirs. It does include wearing costumes and occasionally singing. The skits are written by Marla, Stony Brook's Education Coordinator, and are usually 5-8 minutes long and loads of fun. If anybody is interested, let Sarah Krause know. The skits usually require only 2-3 people for each one so only a couple of people need to be incredibly adventurous. There also need to be trail guides, people to help set up and to man the indoor tables.
